Never Invited You

by Bronwen Exter

LINK TO THE VIDEO

We released this song & video one year, to the day, after Christine Blasey Ford's heroic testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.. The courage it took to talk about the experience of assault 30 years ago in front of Congress moved us wholly. In spite of it not changing the events of the moment, the news of the day was healing in its recognition of what we needed to hear. It wasn't just me or us, it was our reality that was coming to light. We can't live silently in a country that allows men to be sexual predators and hold positions of power. We can't continue to live in a reality where those who do harm, expansive harm, are not held accountable.

Music written by Bronwen Exter; lyrics by Ry Ferro. Video by Ry Ferro. Barbie mobile by Jaden Damarest. LYRICS:

All our hands wringing in the dark

No heart to wait it out

Silence lifting off our tongues

Oh we, oh we were young

All we saw

from the corners of our eyes

Benches, basements, bedrooms

In the dark and in broad daylight

What has fallen on deaf ears is calling out our names

To the streets, to the phones, to our sisters at home

Reclaim, reclaim

In pajamas, in wet bathing suits

In the dress we planned to wear for weeks

To the party we thought we'd never be invited to

We never invited you

What has fallen on deaf ears is calling out our names

To the streets, to the phones, to our sisters at home

Reclaim, reclaim

Shifting one foot in front of the other

Shifting my skin to a suit of armor

She never invited you

Sister, tell the truth.
